Sébastien Del Grosso
Sébastien Del Grosso is a french artist currently living in Paris. Ever since Del Grosso was a kid he loved to draw, and eventually found his way into graphic design. He first started his career as a graphic designer in 2007 and later started doing photography in 2013. He says that from an early age he was always interested in being able to express himself through artistic mediums, which led him on these career paths. Del Grosso also combines his different mediums together to create hybrid pieces of photos and sketches.
The images of Sébastien Del Grosso have a very unique style that is not only well balanced and calculated, but also sets him apart from other artists. The images he creates give off a surrealist and expressive feel. While I am only focusing on select images from Del Grosso, he also has a well rounded collection of art. This work ranges from heavily edited photos to macro photography. The main aspect Del Grosso tries to keep in this work are the emotions he wants to express.
The main driving force behind Del Grosso's work is emotion. This more personal aspect assists him by giving his work more meaning. He says that, in reference to drawing and photography, "I thought that the combination of these two passions would allow me to give free rein to my imagination." His images have special meaning to him as events in his life and also give off a feel of being alive feel. Mixing the real world image with sketched art allows for more movement and drama.
Attempting to have the same style as Sébastien Del Grosso's work allows me to incorporate my love of drawing into my photographs. This task has also opened my eyes as to how difficult it is to incorporate the two together. With the amount of advantages technology gives you in certain areas I took on this project assuming it would be simple to recreate. I have found that it is fairly difficult to get the same effect with what I have available. The final product I believe is fairly similar to the original work.
"Sketch the Life"
My images show my apprecition for the hand drawn, handmade and natural. While creating these I used photos that, on their own, may not be viewed as "eye catching" or even interesting to most people. I then used Sébastien Del Grosso's method of sketching over the photos in order to give them a new personality and human touch. Trying to do this to my images took me on a journey through many different editing programs that all left me with images that were unsatisfying and without the look I have been trying to copy. This all led me back to the hand drawn. I finally found a way to sketch over the images by hand and it resulted in images that I feel reflect the advantages and beauty of the handmade as opposed to the digital.
